How to go about creating a database for a small company that uses paper invoices?

I have a senior project and I want to use this as a learning opportunity to learn SQL and use it in a real-world application. I am working at a mechanic shop that uses paper invoices and I want to know what steps should I take to move it to a database.

I am planning on taking a course on Code Academy and Udemy to learn SQL but how should I implement this for the company?

You can scan the documents and then use a OCR reader + chatgpt or some other software that automatically extracts the data.
This is not uncommon and a practice used by many companies.

I thinking that maybe you can try implement an ERP product with a db to manage and keep invoices (but usually are expensive) and also you can integrate it with an OCR to scan the physical documents Smile
