does anyone have a preferred way to decompress password hashes? what i've been using is kinda out of date.

how often are hash algorithms updated/created/published?

The results of a particular hash algorithm will stay constant forever, but you should make sure you have the correct algorithm (especially if your hash is salted) because various CMSes hash passwords differently. What database is this hash from?

thanks for getting back to me! i'm pretty new at this. i 've written code (in notebook) that organizes dbs and removes many obvious errors. so it's not one db as much as a process question..

the first attempt for code to identify hashes was a convoluted and unwieldy regex (gah) that worked, but isn't awesome. name that hash is pretty good. but i wonder if i'm using the best choice? like who's best at keeping their decrypt code up to date?

and maybe new algorithms don't come out frequently enough to be concerned?
