Also, make sure you're using some system wide VPN or something or (this is a better idea) literally just don't connect the VM to the internet. Horrible idea when you get software from a criminal forum.

I use a VM for the forum and access it via the Tor Browser.
Is that not enough?

Do not use a VPN, this is a bad idea
